SUMMARY:Code Seminar
DESCRIPTION:On May 1\, 2018\, the PA Uniform Construction Code (PA UCC) Reveiw and Advisory Council (RAC) submitted their required report to the Department of Labor and Industry Department adopting the majority of code provisions contained in the 2015 International Code Council (ICC) Model Codes.\n\n\n\nOn October 1\, 2018\, Pennsylvania will be enforcing the majority of the 2015 International Code Council (ICC) Model Codes. Transitioning from the base 2009 codes to the 2015 versions means there will be a significant amount of changes in the enforceable code updates. While some updates are mostly administrative\, some of them may warrant changes in building practices and design techniques.\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin us for this 4 hour seminar and find out what you need to know! \n\n\n\nThe seminar will include the following: \n\n101: Code Update Review\n\nTopics to be discussed during this session include: upcoming changes to the PA UCC\; which code provisions will be enforceable on October 1\, 2018\; overview of the code provisions amended as part of the RAC review process\; and where to go for more information.\n\n\n\n102: 2015 IRC Highlights \n\nThis session will present some of the major code updates coming to Pennsylvania including: air tightness requirements and blower door testing\, mechanical ventilation\, framing requirements with decks\, and more.\n\n\n\n Blower Doors for Builders\n\nAn overview will be provided of the general logistics of completing a blower door test for typical residential construction projects to assist builders in scheduling and planning for this mandatory requirement. Beyond visual inspection\, Section R402.4.1.2 of the 2015 IECC now requires testing and verification of the building's air leakage rate to meet the mandatory 5 air changes per hour at 50 Pascals (5 ACH50) or less in PA. To meet this requirement\, builders must have a third party approved by their local code jurisdiction \,complete a blower door test\, and submit the air leakage results to the code official.\n\n\n\nWhole House Mechanical Ventilation\n\nWe will review the prescriptive requirements for mechanical ventilation\, why mechanical ventilation is important\, and some potential solutions for achieving this requirement. With this new rule of adding whole house mechanical ventilation\, builders are now potentially facing something new.\n\n \n\nCourse administered by:\n\nThe Pennsylvania Housing Research Center\n\nhttp://phrc.psu.edu/\n\n \nRegistration Flyer
