Cabinet Maker Job Description
- Understand and follow instructions given by the shop foreman.
- Have thorough knowledge and ability to use all hand and power tools.
- You must have the following hand tools to work in the shop:
- Tape measure, steel ruler, and combination square
- Hammer, mallet, flat pry bar, minim pry bar, and nail set
- Hand saw, chisels, and utility knife
- Screwdriver, driver tips, countersink drill bits, and drill bits
- Torpedo level, scribing tool, 2’ level, tool belt, and portable toolbox
- Ability to mark and cut lumber, plywood, etc and read a measuring tape accurately to the 1/16”.
- Able to understand and interpret drawings and material sets.
- Capable of cutting, machining and assembling cabinet parts.
- Capable of sanding assembled cabinets and related parts.
- Able to install hardware on finished cabinets.
- Able to install finished cabinets and related parts on the job site.
- Demonstrate a willingness to learn all facets related to cabinet making.
- Be responsible for your own productivity and efficiency.
- Use care and respect when utilizing company tools, equipment and vehicles.
- Maintain professional appearance, meaning clean clothes, well groomed, and presentable to clients.
- Be considerate of all customers and be a good representative of the company.
- Abide by Simeral safety guidelines.
- Maintain a strong attendance record, meaning less than 4 days a year missed other than paid vacation and holidays (or other absences if approved by management due to unique circumstances) and reports to the cabinet shop a minimum of five minutes prior to start time, and works to quitting time with no early departures.
- Able to lift to 75 lbs. and lift heavy objects including but not limited to large, tall cabinets, combination cabinets, 5-gallong paint cans, etc.
- Cabinet projects in terms of installation are mostly located within 1 hour 15 minutes from our office; on occasion some may be located as far as 3 to 4 hours from our office.
- Hours are 6:30 am to 3:30 pm; overtime is available depending on workload for the cabinet shop.
- Not required but a plus, willing and able to occasionally work on residential construction sites as a laborer or carpenter.
